Beware the False AI Claims

We replaced a $750K/year marketing team with 12 AI Agents.

Wow it SOUNDS so good, doesn’t it? It’s quite a headline. Bold, clear and it seems like we’re in the golden age of AI where sugar plum fairies and rainbows replaced all of the bad marketing with happiness.

The End.

Except, it’s probably BS. And it was probably “written” by AI too. And that’s the real place we find ourselves — a jungle of misinformation and lies designed to get our contact info so someone out there somewhere can sell us something.

But let’s keep going on this misleading post.

This system produces 100+ cinematic, product-ready ads per day from a single prompt.

My first question is “are they any good?” followed quickly by “why would anyone watch them?” and then followed by “are you sure you’re not getting views from bots?”

And I could keep going all day. This is the kind of post that PREYS upon founders’ lack of experience with marketing (advertising in this case) and really, it’s just a lead generator for the other company asking people to comment “AGENT” to get this remarkable system. And many people out there fall for it which is exactly like opening up your bedroom window for a vampire and saying…. “ok, but just take a little nibble…”

But they want it all.  —And they could take it.

Caveat emptor is the principle that the buyer alone is responsible for checking the quality and suitability of goods before a purchase is made. And in the AI-misinformation-deep-fakes age we find ourselves in, it’s never been more relevant to those who want to make smart purchasing decisions for themselves or their companies. The AI-age isn’t necessarily a good or bad thing, it just means we need to enter into every interaction with a whole truckload of caution.

To settle things up re: replacing your marketing team or agency with AI, allow me to help. Don’t. Here’s why:

Gen AI is a probability/prediction engine — it is unoriginal in its design which means your marketing will also be boring and undifferentiated UNLESS you have someone using it and making the proper changes to ensure high quality creativity—and value.

Gen AI can remove you from important relationships by sending automated responses. Is that what YOU want to receive? — an automated response – that’s what your customers mean to you? That’s it?  Imagine sending your husband, wife or kids an automated message. You wouldn’t. Why? Because THOSE relationships truly matter. Well, I’d submit that your customer relationships matter too—and you might want to stay focused on THEM before your competitors do a better job and you lose them.

Gen AI comes with hallucinations, bias, errors, incomplete work and a host of other problems that never seem to make it into posts like the one we’re talking about.

So…your Mom’s advice of “if it looks too good to be true, it probably is” is VERY fitting for AI posts and AI companies. Use your judgment, ask any AI experts you know (yes like me) and don’t try to get important things done quickly and easily. There is value in doing the hard stuff the hard way. I’m always available and willing to help you!  Happy Thanksgiving!
